Multiplication and division are two of the basic operations to be performed using the slide rule and these operations are generally performed using the common C and D scales. At first, it seems a little confusing getting used to the terminology and the placement of indices. To understand this fully, one needs to make some effort at understanding the mathematics behind the construction of the scales. However, after some practice, movements become second nature and you will find yourself using the slide rule like a professional.
Each lesson has a number of examples and the explanations are illustrated with diagrams. For some of the lessons, there is also an accompanying video that demonstrates the technique using one of the available virtual slide rules. If you do not have a slide rule but would still like to use one, make sure you check out Derek Ross' virtual slide rule by using the link at the right.
