We all know our multiplication tables don't we! Well ... sometimes not so well, but no matter. With the slide rule we are able to multiply numbers quickly and easily.
Let's look at some important words first:
Factor:
Any number which divides exactly into another is said to be a factor of that number.
So if we had something like ...
11 x 12 = 132
then we could say that both 11 and 12 are factors of 132 because both 11 and 12 will divide into 132 evenly.
Product:
The product is the result when we multiply two or more numbers together.
So we could say that 132 is the product
of 11 and 12.
Multiple:
A multiple of a number is the product of that number and another factor.
So in our example above, we can say that
132 is a multiple of 12 or a multiple of 11.
